Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, (Wednesday, September 8th, 2010) - PPC Ltd is strongly committed to disaster preparedness as a vital component of the service provided by the company.

A recent presentation to the residents of Middle Caicos was conducted by Jamal Robinson, director of the Department of Disaster Management and Emergency (DDME) to discuss the new disaster management programme. During this discussion, it was reported that residents raised concerns that the DDME and PPC were not working closely in the development of the island's disaster preparedness plan.

Eustace Musgrove, PPC's Environmental and Safety Specialist, in response to the concerns explained that "Given the fact that PPC operates in an area commonly afflicted with hurricanes, a key component of our service as a utility company is to ensure that we factor in plans to address the fallout from disasters and as such PPC employs a Comprehensive Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Plan that incorporates all of our service territories. We are committed to working with the emergency bodies in all the territories we service should the need arise."

PPC's Vice President of Customer and Corporate Services, Allan Robinson, went on to note that "Residents of our territories should feel  confident that plans are in place and our employees are equipped with proper inventory and backup equipment should the need arise."

PPC worked aggressively following the passage of hurricanes Hanna and Ike in 2008, to restore electricity to customers within weeks of the hurricanes' passage. Customers were kept abreast with restoration efforts as PPC's linesmen worked alongside overseas crew from PPC's parent company Fortis Inc. to expeditiously restore power. Allan Robinson stated that, "Lessons were learnt back in 2008 and customers can rest assured that in the event a hurricane hits our islands PPC is even better equipped to restore service more efficiently than before!"
