FortisTCI Achieves ISO 14001 & 45001 Certification

FortisTCI Achieves ISO 14001 & 45001 Certification 09May 2019

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (Wednesday, May 8, 2019) – Effective April 29, FortisTCI is ISO 14001:2015 and 45001:2018 certified.  The accreditations confirm that the company’s Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental Management Systems are aligned to international best practice throughout all its operations within the Turks and Caicos Islands. The company is one of the few electricity providers in the region to have achieved both certifications.

After completing a requirement to declare self-conformance to the standards in mid-December 2018, FortisTCI underwent an extensive external audit from March 14 to 15 and again from March 25 to 29. The exercise was led by representatives from the leading standards organization British Standards Institution (BSI). Both standards apply to the core business of generating, transmitting and distributing electricity and are valid until April 28, 2022.

To achieve ISO 14001:2015, FortisTCI had to demonstrate that it is actively managing environmental aspects of its operations, and its impact on the environment through policies, procedures, and programs that address ecological changes and challenges. For ISO 45001:2018, the company had to equally show that it is providing a safe and healthy workplace and that there are policies, procedures, and programs in place to help prevent work-related injuries and minimize risks associated with employee wellbeing and wellness.

FortisTCI President and CEO Eddinton Powell said, “These ISO certifications are a corporate achievement that required the full support and engagement of all team members, and reflect our everyday commitment to having a well-run utility that meets the needs of all our stakeholders – customers, employees, shareholders and the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands, whom we are proud to serve.”
