FortisTCI Wins CARILEC's "Best Performance in Safety" Award

FortisTCI Wins CARILEC's "Best Performance in Safety" Award 11Dec 2014

CARILEC's annual Benchmark Study Best Performances Award is designed to assess and compare regional performance among its member utilities and determine the best performers in the chosen performance indicator categories. Included in the criteria for the “Best Performance in Safety” Award is the determination of the utility’s incident rate, which is an indicator of occupational safety. It measures the number of incidents per 100 employees. FortisTCI, which currently employs more than 150 employees, remarkably recorded zero industrial accidents in 2013, resulting in zero lost employee working hours for that period.

President & CEO of FortisTCI, Eddinton Powell said of the achievement, “Safety is the number one priority for FortisTCI. It is important that we make sure that all safety protocols and procedures are adhered to daily. We want all of our employees to go home to their families every evening or at their end of their shifts healthy and safe.” Mr. Powell also lauded the FortisTCI team for going the extra mile to foster a safe working environment. “This Award is not just a win for the Company, but for each employee who works here.”

Approximately 18 utility companies from across the Caribbean region competed in the CARILEC’s 2013 Benchmark Study Best Performances Awards programme. Awards were also presented in other categories, including “Best Performing Utility”, “Best Performance in Generation Services”, “Best Performance in Transmission & Distribution Services” and “Best Performance in Commercialization Services”.

The official Awards Ceremony took place at CARILEC’s 2014 Engineering Conference in July.
