Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, April 28th, 2009 - Early this morning, the islands of Providenciales and North Caicos experienced an unscheduled power interruption due to the failure of two lighting arrestors on the main substation transformer which feeds the distribution system.
PPC's technical crew began work immediately to isolate the problem so that power could be restored to the islands affected as quickly as possible. Power was restored to the majority of the islands within half an hour but took up to two hours in some areas. The cause of the failure to the lighting arrestors is under investigation.
PPC apologises for any inconvenience caused to customers. The Company is also reviewing solutions to avoid any reoccurances.
