Arrival of Second Diesel-Generating Engine Enhances PPC's Capital Investment Programme

Arrival of Second Diesel-Generating Engine Enhances PPC's Capital Investment Programme 22Feb 2011

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, Tuesday, 22nd February 2011 - Another element of PPC's capital investment programme came to fruition this week when the second diesel generating engine which was purchased in 2010 arrived on island.

The arrival of this second Wartsila 20 VW 32 engine shows PPC's commitment to the capital investment programme and brings the utility's installed capacity to 59.5 megawatts at the Richmond Hill generation site on Providenciales. Like the first engine which arrived early 2010 the new engine will again boost PPC's operations by increasing fuel efficiency, reducing the per KWH cost of generation maintenance and will improve plant availability through integrated control and monitoring systems.

CEO and President of PPC, Mr. Eddinton Powell said, "Four years ago we developed and implemented a very strategic capital investment programme. This programme is a roadmap which provides us with direction and guidance on how to plan and manage our infrastructure investments. At approximately twenty million dollars ($20,000,000), the Wartsila project is the largest single capital project in the history of the Company."

Mr. Powell added, "The arrival of the second engine demonstrates PPC's commitment to providing the most reliable, most efficient, and least costly electricity to the people of Providenciales, North Caicos, Middle Caicos and South Caicos.  Our motto is the "Relentless Pursuit of Progress" and from 2007 to the end of 2010, the Company has invested approximately one hundred and ten million dollars ($110,000,000) in infrastructure projects. The Wartsila engines represent a perfect example of the advanced state-of-art technology used by PPC to provide the best quality electricity and service to residents and businesses within our service territory."

In addition to new generation infrastructure, PPC has expanded their transmission and distribution division, built a new fuel storage facility, improved and increased their Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and built new support facilities such as the customer care centre and corporate facilities.
