Provo Power Company (PPC) Ltd Promotes Healthy Living Among Staff

Provo Power Company (PPC) Ltd Promotes Healthy Living Among Staff 20Apr 2009

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands 15th April - As part of PPC's ongoing effort to support and promote healthy lifestyles among its employees, on Saturday 4th April, the company held their first Annual Spring Walk for staff and their families.

In total, over 70 'early birds' took part in the walk, which started at 6am at the IGA parking lot and continued along the Leeward Highway until they reached the finish line at Sam's parking lot downtown.

There was an added incentive for staff to complete the walk as PPC agreed to make a charitable donation of $25.00 to the Kidney Foundation for every employee who completed the walk. First to reach the finish line was Frances Quan, PPC's High Voltage Electrician, and Malik Williams, son of PPC staff member, Bernadette Williams.

Judith Misick, Human Resources Manager at PPC said, "The walk was a great success and brought out a healthy amount of competition among participants. The main objective was to organize a team-building event outside of work that would further strengthen the camaraderie among staff. As soon as we heard about the Kidney Foundation's appeal for much needed funds, we were thrilled to use our employee walk as an opportunity to help and we were able to raise $1,025.00".

Participants took under an hour to complete the power walk, and afterwards were treated to a well-deserved hot breakfast.

Eddinton Powell, the CEO of PPC was there to lead the way, "We were delighted with the attendance - the 6 a.m. start didn't deter many, and instead attracted determined staff to raise money for charity. The idea behind the walk was to provide a fun event for staff, where their families could be involved, that would promote healthy living. We are very supportive and encouraging of staff to lead a healthy lifestyle both in and outside of work. We are already looking forward to the next walk and plan to make this an annual event".
